Gas Explosion at Barbecue Restaurant in Yinchuan, Ningxia: 31 Deaths Reported

Xi Jinping issued an important instruction on the gas explosion accident at Fuyang Barbecue Restaurant in Xingqing District, Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, demanding all-out efforts to treat the injured, strengthen safety supervision in key industries and fields, and effectively safeguard the people's lives and property safety.

At around 20:40 on June 21, a gas explosion occurred at Fuyang Barbecue Restaurant in Xingqing District, Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Up to now, the accident has caused 31 deaths and 7 injuries.

After the accident, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, President of the People's Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attached great importance to it and made important instructions. The gas explosion at Fuyang Barbecue Restaurant in Xingqing District, Yinchuan City, Ningxia, has caused heavy casualties, which is distressing and leaves a profound lesson. All-out efforts should be made to treat the injured and comfort the families of the casualties, the cause of the accident should be found out as soon as possible, and responsibilities should be seriously pursued in accordance with the law. Currently, it is the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. All regions and relevant departments must firmly establish the concept of safe development, adhere to the people-first and life-first principle, implement work with a sense of responsibility of "being on tenterhooks all the time", keep an eye on potential hazards, and conduct a comprehensive risk investigation. In the near future, relevant departments should carry out a special rectification of production safety risks, strengthen safety supervision in key industries and fields, effectively prevent the occurrence of major and extraordinarily serious production safety accidents, and truly protect the people's lives and property.

In accordance with Xi Jinping's instructions, the Ministry of Emergency Management, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the National Health Commission, and the State Administration for Market Regulation have sent working groups to the scene to guide the treatment of the injured and emergency disposal work. Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Yinchuan City have organized forces to fully carry out the aftermath work. At present, medical treatment and the investigation into the cause of the accident are underway.

Article 36 of the newly revised Work Safety Law clearly stipulates: "Production and business units in the catering and other industries that use gas shall install combustible gas alarm devices and ensure their normal use."

Driven by the requirements of the new Work Safety Law and local policies, production and business units using gas in the catering industry and other sectors have basically installed combustible gas alarm devices, but why do accidents still occur frequently?

Traditional combustible gas alarm devices require regular calibration, but catering businesses do not have the ability to perform regular calibration, making it impossible to ensure their normal use. After a few months, the combustible gas alarms become useless. At present, there is an urgent need for a combustible gas detector that requires no calibration and has a long service life.
